How to Write an Address on a Courier Package?

How to Write an Address on a Courier Package

Sending a parcel might sound easy, but many people make small mistakes that cause delays or even delivery to the wrong address. Whether you’re sending a gift to your cousin in London or business samples to a client based in the UK or any other country’s world, the way you write the address can make a huge difference. So, let’s understand the right way to write an address on a courier package and make sure your parcel always reaches safely and within time to the receiver.

Why It’s Important to Write the Address Properly on a courier package

Writing a clear and complete address helps the courier company (like UDS) deliver your parcel quickly and without confusion. A small spelling error or missing PIN code can lead to delays, extra charges, or your parcel being sent back to you.

As a leading courier company in the UK we know that  proper address is one of the most important things for smooth and timely delivery.

When you’re sending a parcel abroad (for example, from India to the UK), following the correct format of address ensures it passes the customs easily and reaches the receiver of the parcel  without any hassle.

At UDS, we take extra care of your shipments, right from proper packing to correct labeling, so your parcel always reaches on time to the right person.

Step 1: Prepare Your Parcel Before Writing

Before you start writing the address, make sure your parcel is ready.

  • Use a clean and sturdy box or envelope to pack your parcel.
  • Remove old stickers or barcodes if you’re reusing packing boxes to pack your courier.
  • Keep one clear side for the receiver’s address and another for your (sender’s) address.

At UDS, we usually recommend writing the receiver’s address on the front of the parcel and the sender’s address on the back or top-left corner.

Step 2: Write the Receiver’s (Delivery) Address Correctly

This is the most crucial part. Always write the complete address in a clear and simple format.

Format to follow:

  1. Full Name (e.g., Mr. Rahul Sharma)
  2. Company name / Department / “C/O” if needed
  3. Building number, name, flat number, or floor (e.g., Flat 502, Tower B)
  4. Street name, area, landmark (e.g., MG Road, Near Central Mall)
  5. City + PIN code (e.g., Bengaluru – 560038)
  6. State (e.g., Karnataka)
  7. Country (for international parcels, write in CAPITALS, e.g., UNITED KINGDOM)
  8. Contact number (very helpful for delivery person)

Here’s a sample address for a parcel going from India to the UK:

London SW1A 1AA

UNITED KINGDOM

Step 3: Don’t Forget the Sender’s (Return) Address

If for any reason your parcel can’t be delivered, the courier company will need to return it to you. That’s why the return address is important.

Include:

  • Your full name or business name
  • House/flat number, street, area, city, PIN code, and state
  • Country (write “FROM: INDIA” if sending abroad)
  • Contact number and email (optional, but useful)

Write this clearly on the top left corner or back side of the parcel.

Step 4: Write Neatly or Use a Printed Label

Always write in capital letters and with a black or blue pen. Avoid fancy colors, cursive handwriting, or smudged ink to write the address and other information.
If possible, print your address label , this looks professional and easy to understand for courier companies.

Avoid writing near edges, folds, or seams. Keep your text clean, straight, and easy to read.

Step 5: Place the Address Properly on the Parcel

  • The receiver’s address should be on the largest flat side (front).
  • The sender’s address goes on the top-left or back side.
  • Leave some blank space around the address, and don’t stick tape on it.
  • Keep barcodes or courier labels away from the written address.

Step 6: Double-Check Before Sending

Before you hand over your parcel, take one last look:

  • Is the PIN code correct?
  • Is the city and state spelled correctly?
  • Have you written the country name in capital letters (for international parcels)?
  • Is the contact number correct and reachable?

Step 7: Extra Tips for Sending International Couriers

Since UDS specializes in courier services from India to the UK and other countries like China, USA, Canada, Hong Kong, Nepal, Netherlands etc. , here are a few extra things to remember:

  • Always write the destination country in uppercase (Example – UNITED KINGDOM).
  • Add phone numbers with country codes (+44 for UK, +91 for India).
  • Keep your address label separate from customs forms or invoices.
  • For business parcels, printed labels are better for quick customs clearance.
  • If delivering to a company or remote area, mention a C/O (care of) name or department.
